Suzuki and the Special Needs Child
Exceptional Children
The Suzuki Method is particularly well-suited for children with special needs. As with language learning, it is not how quickly the child learns, but the ability of the child, parent and teacher to work together and to create a positive environment. As a Suzuki student, the early emphasis is on making music and playful learning, while music reading can come later. Every step is as small as necessary to accommodate each child.
Over the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of teaching students of all abilities. As a parent of a child with special needs, I have experienced first-hand the challenges and joys of working together.
I have had the opportunity to work with children in these settings:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Cerebral Palsy
- Metabolic Disease
- Cancer
- Learning Disabilities
- Processing Disorders
